What is this app?
This simulator helps you practice inputting braille using the specific methods of a
Mechanical Braille Writer. It's designed for
sighted users who want to build motor memory and learn braille input techniques without
needing consistent access to an actual machine—and without wasting paper!

Quick Start
Keys 1-6: Press simultaneously to form braille characters using a keyboard or the touch keys
Space: Advance to the next cell
LS Key (Line Space): Move to a new line
BS Key (Backspace): Go back one cell
Erase Mode: Enable this mode and click or touch dots to erase them, as though smoothing them out with a braille eraser tool
Changing Lines: The up and down arrows shift the paper up and down, as though rolling the feeder knobs
Carriage Lever: Pull the carriage lever back to return to the beginning of a line, or place the embossing head as needed
What the Simulator Does Not Do
Text will not automatically roll over to the next line while embossing. Listen for the bell to know
how many characters are left on a line, then use LS and pull the embossing head
back to the start of the next line.
